THE RIDE FOR JASE Team
Ben and Kat are a husband and wife team and were responsible for all of the planning and preparation for the Ride for Jase, along with the help of some fantastic family and friends. Ben and Kat met whilst living in London in 2010 and share a love of travelling, running, triathlons, good food, and spending time with family and friends.
Ben grew up in Sawtell, just south of Coffs Harbour on the North Coast of NSW. Ben and Jase had a country upbringing and lived in a tight knit community, spending their childhood outdoors: surfing, riding bikes, playing cricket, football and basketball. Ben moved to Sydney when he turned 18 to become a carpenter and a few years later, Jase also made the move. After completing his carpentry trade, Ben went on to study Cert IV in Building and Construction and is now a Site Foreman for FDC Construction. Ben is passionate about cycling and previously cycled in France for the Heart Foundation in 2009.
Kat is passionate about health and wellness and strongly believes in preventative medicine for a mentally healthier world. Kat grew up in Sydney and has completed a Bachelor of Health Sciences and a Masters in Human Nutrition. As the Ride for Jase Nutritionist, Kat was responsible for ensuring Ben met his nutritional requirements in the lead up to, and during the journey. Kat was also be responsible for driving the support vehicle and for documenting, filming, and marketing the ride as well as social media management.
Ben and Kat don't want anyone to suffer in silence the way Jase did, or for any other family member to lose a loved one to suicide. With the ride now complete, they hope that it has in someway encouraged others to reach out for help or give hope to those who have lost a loved one to suicide.
